Y’all know those fake download and play buttons that show up to RUIN YOUR LIFE on a lot of file-sharing and streaming sites? Well, Google are cracking down on this type of bad net behavior, which can result in dodgy software and gross pop-up ads gettin’ all over your computer, by targeting the fake buttons as part of its eight-year-old Safe Browsing initiative.
Says Google, “You may have encountered social engineering in a deceptive download button, or an image ad that falsely claims your system is out of date. Today, we’re expanding Safe Browsing protection to protect you from such deceptive embedded content, like social engineering ads.”
