Believe it or not, as we wade our way through the nuclear fallout of the digital music economy, there are still one or two stubborn record stores in 2014 who refuse to die. While the big-end-of-towners are faring worse than a T-rex in a meteor storm, it’s the small, independent stores that are maintaining their relevance in this post-apocalypse environment. I like to think (lovingly) of independent record stores as the cockroaches of the music industry.
One such cockroach is Harvest Records in Asheville, North Carolina, who this year are celebrating the fact that they have defied all the odds by keeping their doors open for 10 years.
To mark the occasion, store owners Mark Capon and Matt Schnable have roped in some of their favorite bands to play real, live, actual music over three nights in and around Asheville. You can check out the full line-up below, but it’s fair to say that any bill running an x-y axis from The Clean to William Tyler is going to be a pretty stellar collection of bands.
The whole shindig is being called Transfigurations II and runs from August 28-30 at Grey Eagle and The Mothlight in Asheville (Thursday and Friday) and Blannahassett Island in Marshall (Saturday). Weekend passes are available now for $125 from the Harvest Records website, and tickets for individual nights will be available later this month.
