Jon Spencer detonates new explosion of blues with his first EVER solo album Spencer Sings the Hits

There is no disputing the fact that Jon Spencer is an S-T-A-R STAR. And the fact that Spencer is STILL the nabob of an unique raw blues sound is a testament to his lasting, irresistible appeal. As we slide into this post-Halloween/pre-Thanksgiving daze, we would be remiss to not give thanks and not mention the man’s quickly-approaching new album. That wouldn’t be a slight — but more an outright slap in the face — to “THE NUMBER ONE BLUES SINGER IN THE COUNTRY!

Although Spencer has led or co-piloted some of the best raunch acts of the last few decades (Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, Heavy Trash, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), Spencer Sings the Hits is the man’s first true solo disc. Originally pressed as a limited edition album for sale during his recent tour supporting The Melvins, Spencer Sings the Hits gets an official release November 9 on the always righteous In the Red Records (order it here).

Few pull off an antique-yet-contemporary brilliance like Spencer, as the two stone-colds from Spencer Sings the Hits released thus far below demonstrate. The videos for “I Got the Hits” and “Do the Trash Can” are directed by Alex Italics and Andrew Hooper respectively. You got eyes and ears…now get the flavor!
