NNA and New Amsterdam release debut album from tenor sax quartet Battle Trance

One morning, Travis Laplante (of Little Women) woke up with the batshit-crazy idea to form a tenor saxophone quartet with three specific musicians — Matthew Nelson, Jeremy Viner, and Patrick Breiner. Well, we’ve all had that dream. Laplante was just crazy enough to actually go through with it! Even though he barely knew his three soon-to-be compadres, Laplante went for it; they droned the day away, and Battle Trance was born.

Now, these mid-range woodwind warriors have graced us with a whole album of reedy goodness. Palace of Wind will be released on August 26 through New Amsterdam Records, with NNA Tapes handling the vinyl edition. Laplante has released on NNA before — his trio with Trevor Dunn and Ches Smith unleashed Ancestral Instrument earlier this year on cassette.
