Sacred Bones to release Institute's Catharsis

Summertime is coming, and with it comes Catharsis, the full-length Sacred Bones debut of Austin, TX punks Institute. Comprised of members of Glue, Wiccans, and Back to Back, Institute make Crass- and Crisis-influenced punk jams, which perhaps you heard on last year’s Salt EP.

Things on Catharsis veer from art-rock to proto-punk to Kraut. The band demoed the album tracks for several weeks in their hometown, before journeying to NYC for a holiday-season, four-day studio session with Ben Greenberg (The Men) at Gary’s Electric in Brooklyn. Fun fact: Andrew Savage of fellow TX band Parquet Courts chimes in on track “Christian Right.” According to Sacred Bones, the album brings up classic summer themes of “morality, sexuality and religion are all interwoven seamlessly throughout the 10 tracks.” Fun!

Catharsis drops June 9.
